Strange lag issues
I live in Missouri, normally used America Dist. Lag has been serious for me lately. Normal pings are <200ms, but now so messed up, 1,000ms and spikes over 100,000 then err007. I wouldn't complain, but this has gone way beyond the day or two surge that happens alot. This is now approaching two weeks. My provider has been out and tested my connection. Everything is at or near peak for my area. I do all the scans and tuneups weekly and run contig on my gw.dat file. gw.dat is in 3 segments, no room to defrag it further.
One thing that has helped in the past until the spikes settle themselves out, I would play on the Asian servers. Now the strange part; I can play with low pings, <200ms as long as I play in presear and in Asian, Korean, districts. As soon as I change to a post character in the Asian dist, or to any American dist pre or post, pings soar. I can attach screen shots if that will help anything. Low end in SS 26k ms, high end >86k ms. I log back onto my presear character and no lag. Getting tired of playing alone and no one to open gate to Charr hunt. Why would there be so much difference in pings between presear and postsear? Why do I, based in America, get better pings on Asian servers? Is there something more I can do to lower my pings? *counting to 10 for 10th time, before throwing computer out window* Edit: I scan with AVG, spybot, Housecall, run CCleaner weekly, AusLogics disk defrag, contig with PowerdefragmenterGUI. Hard wired, not wireless. Next step I guess is support. Last edited by Perkunas; Mar 09, 2009 at 06:42 PM // 18:42.. |

Uh not exactly a computer genius, but have you checked your comp for viruses? Spybot Search and destroy (s&d) is good, scans your computer thoroughly, says what's wrong and what it will cause etc... Other than that though, I have no idea sorry.

It might be because of the server's fault. You should also check to see if anyone is leeching your connection, best way to prevent this is to password your wireless connection. This problem should not persist for more than 4-5 days. If it continues, I think you should do what A H O Y T said. Removing malware could speed up your connection. You should consider using AVG, Avast, or Avira to scan for any viruses and spyware.

Quick update:
Spent most of the past 2 days exchanging emails with PlayNC. We made several changes to optimize my machine, shutdown certain background programs, updated a couple of drivers, among the changes. There are still some issues with packet losses in the many hops from my house to plaync's house. The game is at least more playable. If any of you are having continuous lag issues, don't be afraid to take it up with support. Their instructions are simple and direct. You may have to download a couple of diagnostic tools, run the tests then submit the data, but if it improves your machine and game play, it is worth it. |

lag guild wars
I too have had problems lately with guild wars connection. I believe it has to do with the last few updates. No problems at all with any other games. Also when GW drops connection or is lagged, i can minimize and surf the net with no problems. It may have to do with the fact, that more players are on, with all the new GW content. But it is a GW issue. Maybe they need more bandwidth or more servers.
